A remarkable milestone for inclusive recreation has just taken place in Taiwan, and Para Mobility’s Pelican Pool Hoist was front and centre. Taiwan’s Ocean Affairs Council (海委會) hosted the region’s first-ever Accessible Ocean Day, a pioneering event designed to give people with disabilities the opportunity to safely experience water-based activities. For many participants, it wasn’t just an activity—it was a long-awaited dream finally within reach.
What made this event even more significant was the presence of Taiwan’s Vice President, marking the first time a senior national leader had attended an accessible water initiative of this kind. His attendance sent a powerful message: accessible recreation is not optional—it’s essential.
A New Standard for Inclusive Water Access
While previous years relied on improvised tools—such as basic home transfer devices, makeshift equipment, or outdated slings—the difference this year was clear the moment the Pelican Pool Hoist was introduced.
Staff, volunteers, government officials, and families immediately recognised the professionalism, safety, and dignity that purpose-built equipment brings.
The Pelican showcased smooth operation, robust design, and the ability to safely transfer participants into the water setting a new benchmark for accessible aquatic experiences. For many attendees and officials, it was their first time seeing a truly dedicated aquatic access solution in action.
A Life-Changing Day for Participants
The smiles, laughter, and emotional reactions said it all. Participants who had previously been unable to enjoy Taiwan’s coastal beauty were finally able to get into the water safely and comfortably. Families watched loved ones rediscover joy, independence, and connection with the ocean—moments that were as impactful for caregivers as they were for participants themselves.
The Ocean Affairs Council’s leadership in hosting this event has sparked national interest, opening the door for wider adoption of proper aquatic access equipment across Taiwan. This is more than a one-day initiative—it’s the beginning of a shift toward inclusive aquatic recreation throughout the region.
Championing Global Accessibility, One Community at a Time
Para Mobility is honoured to support international partners who share the vision of breaking down barriers and enabling people of all abilities to experience freedom in the water. Taiwan’s Accessible Ocean Day is a powerful example of what happens when innovation, advocacy, and community come together.
With growing interest across Asia, we’re excited to continue supporting governments, organisations, and aquatic facilities as they work toward creating inclusive spaces that truly welcome everyone.
